A Journey Through the Old Testament

Course Description:

This course is a survey of the great themes of the Old Testament, including the origin of man, the origin and decline of the Jewish nation, the kings, the prophets, the development of the kingdom of God, and the poetry and wisdom literature of the Old Testament.

Course Objectives:

After completing this course, students will be able to…

  1. Discuss creationism as described in the Old Testament and compare it to other theories of creation.
  2. Identify and discuss the various major themes of the Old Testament, including the following:
    1. Life of Israel
    2. The kings
    3. The prophets
    4. The development of the kingdom of God
  3. Describe the following aspects of the Jewish nation:
    1. Origin
    2. Periods of Judges and Kings
    3. Decline
    4. Exile of the Jewish people
    5. Restoration of the Jewish nation
    6. Spiritual implications and relevance to Christianity today
  4. Identify and discuss the various genres of literature contained in the Old Testament, including the following:
    1. Poetry
    2. Drama
    3. Wisdom literature
    4. Prophecy
